Shopify theme documentation

Routine

A focused Shopify theme for skincare and body-care brands that organize product discovery around a clear daily routine.

  • Version 1.0.0
  • $190 USD
  • One preset: Clinical Warmth Routine

A calm structure for routine-led catalogs

Routine connects routine steps, product roles, supporting education, trust cues, and tactile media without making medical or product-outcome claims.

The theme uses Shopify-native foundations for product, collection, search, cart, content, localization, and app-block surfaces. Progressive enhancements retain documented native fallbacks.

Included theme surfaces

Routine-led merchandising

Routine steps, product roles, education, trust cues, and supporting media share one focused presentation system.

Product and discovery foundations

Applicable product media, variants, swatches, selling plans, pickup, recommendations, unit pricing, collections, and search use Shopify data and forms.

Cart and content paths

Cart page and drawer foundations, pages, contact, blog, articles, password, gift cards, locale controls, social links, and app blocks share the Routine visual language.

Set up the Routine homepage

Work on the unpublished Routine theme until you have checked every product, link, image, and claim. The steps below recreate the accepted two-step Routine map from a clean Clinical Warmth Routine preset without changing theme files.

1. Check the prerequisites

  1. In Shopify admin, confirm that Routine version 1.0.0 is installed with the Clinical Warmth Routine preset and is still unpublished. Do not publish the theme while you are setting up or reviewing the page.
  2. Prepare at least two distinct products for the two Routine step blocks. Each product needs a featured image, a truthful title and description, and the catalog data you intend shoppers to see.
  3. For the accepted demo posture, keep inventory tracking on for all six single-variant products. Set the designated available product's available and on-hand quantities to 2, keep the other five at 0, and turn off Sell when out of stock for all six. Some Shopify screens call this Continue selling when out of stock.
  4. Choose an existing image for the Texture media block only if you own it or have permission to use it. Add useful alt text in Content > Files before selecting the image in the Theme Editor.

2. Keep one product available and five sold out

  1. Go to Products and open the designated available product. Set Status to Active, then confirm that the other five demo products remain Active.
  2. In Publishing, choose Manage publishing, enable Online Store, then confirm the change. If you are recreating the accepted demo, leave every other sales channel off. Repeat this check for all six products used by the Routine map.
  3. Open the Inventory area for each of the six sole variants. Keep Track quantity enabled, set the designated available variant's available and on-hand quantities to 2, keep the other five variants at 0, and make sure Sell when out of stock is off for all six. Save only after the six-row readback is exact.
  4. Open the designated available product and one distinct sold-out product through the Online Store preview. Titles and featured images should load; the designated product must be available to add to cart, while the distinct control product must remain sold out.

3. Show the guide page and wire the main menu

  1. Go to Online Store > Pages, open the existing Routine guide page, change Visibility from Hidden to Visible, and save. Use an existing internal page; do not create a duplicate page just to change visibility.
  2. Go to Content > Menus > Main menu. In older Shopify navigation, use Online Store > Navigation > Main menu.
  3. Keep four items in this order: Home linked to the home page, Catalog linked to All products, Routine guide linked to the existing Routine guide page, and Contact linked to the existing contact page. Use Shopify's internal link picker instead of pasting a preview URL.
  4. Remove stale or duplicate menu items only after checking their destinations, then save the menu. Open each link in storefront preview and confirm that it stays inside the same store.

4. Open the correct Routine map

  1. Go to Online Store > Routine > Edit theme. If Shopify shows the theme library first, use Online Store > Themes > Routine > Customize. Confirm that the theme is unpublished before continuing.
  2. In the page selector, choose Home page. In the left sidebar, open Routine map. Keep the existing block order: two Routine step blocks, Product role, Education note, Trust cue, Texture media, then Education accordion.

5. Fill every section and block field

  1. In the Routine map section, set Eyebrow to a short context label, Heading to the routine's plain-language order, and Intro to a brief explanation of how the cards work. Avoid treatment, efficacy, or universal-suitability wording.
  2. Open the first Routine step block. Fill Step label, Title, Summary, and Product role label, then use Product to select the first image-bearing product. Explain only what the product does in this sequence.
  3. Open the second Routine step block. Fill Step label, Title, Summary, and Product role label, then select a different image-bearing Product. Make the order between step 1 and step 2 obvious.
  4. Open Product role. Fill Role label, Title, and Summary. Optional product reference may point to a third product when the card explains where that product fits; otherwise leave it blank intentionally.
  5. Open Education note. Fill Title and Body with a short order or usage-context note that helps a shopper read the routine.
  6. Open Trust cue. Fill Title and Body with calm, verifiable selection guidance. Product descriptions, ingredient information, and routine order are appropriate sources; medical or guaranteed-result claims are not.
  7. Open Texture media. Select an existing rights-cleared Image, then fill Title, Body, and Caption. Describe what is visibly present and keep the asset's maintained alt text accurate.
  8. Open Education accordion. Fill Title and Body with practical guidance for reading or adapting the routine. Keep the text useful when the disclosure is opened with a keyboard and without JavaScript.
  9. Review the seven blocks in order. Do not delete or reorder them unless your content plan explicitly requires a different structure.

6. Save and verify the storefront

  1. Click Save once after all section and block fields are ready. Wait for Shopify to confirm the save before leaving the editor.
  2. Use the desktop and mobile preview controls. On both views, confirm that the heading and intro are readable, both selected products show the correct title and image, the role and education cards are present, and the texture image is not cropped into an unusable detail.
  3. Check that no onboarding placeholder remains. Open both product links, the Routine guide link, and Contact. Confirm the exact one-available/five-sold-out catalog posture and that no link uses an editor-only or password-bearing preview URL.
  4. Use the keyboard to reach the Education accordion and activate it with Enter or Space. The focus indicator must remain visible, and the opened guidance must be readable without horizontal scrolling.

7. Fix placeholders without changing theme code

  1. If a Routine step says Product details are unavailable for this step, reopen that block and select the intended product explicitly. Then confirm that the product is Active, published to Online Store, and has a featured image.
  2. If the product title appears but its image is unavailable, add or correct the product's featured image in Products, save, and refresh the Theme Editor preview.
  3. A blank Product selector in each of the first two Routine step blocks uses an automatic fallback: the first two Online Store-visible products with images in the All collection. Select products explicitly when order matters. Later product references stay empty when blank.
  4. If Texture media shows Add an image to show texture or product detail, select an existing rights-cleared Image in that block. A product image does not fill this field automatically.
  5. If the section says Add routine blocks to build this section, restore the seven blocks in the accepted order before entering copy. If a save has an unclear result, stop editing and reconcile the readback instead of clicking Save again automatically.

8. Reset safely to the clean preset state

  1. Open Routine map in the unpublished theme. Clear Product in both Routine step blocks, clear Optional product reference in Product role, and clear Image in Texture media. Leave products, inventory, pages, menus, and theme publication unchanged.
  2. Restore the section copy. Set Eyebrow to "Routine education", Heading to "Build a simple routine around product roles", and Intro to "Use this section to explain order, texture, product roles, and care notes without relying on an app."
  3. Restore Routine step 1. Set Step label to "Step 1", Title to "Start with a clear first step", Summary to "Describe the first product role in plain language.", and Product role label to "Start". Restore Routine step 2 with "Step 2", "Add the support step", "Explain how the next product fits into the routine.", and "Support" in the same four fields.
  4. Restore the remaining cards. In Product role, use "Product role", "Explain where this product fits", and "Keep product-role copy factual and easy to scan." In Education note, use Title "Routine note" and Body "Add a short process note or usage context." In Trust cue, use Title "Clear role guidance" and Body "Use calm, verifiable support copy."
  5. Restore Texture media with Title "Texture detail", Body "Show a detail image or keep this panel as an omitted-media fallback.", and a blank Caption. Restore Education accordion with Title "How to read this step" and Body "Keep supporting guidance readable without JavaScript." Confirm the seven-block order, then click Save once.
